These terms of service set the rules for using GLM Chat (glm-ai.chat, “we”, “us”), including the free chat and the guides. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. We have kept them short and in plain language, so please read them in full.
Effective date: September 24, 2026.

The service
GLM Chat offers two things. The first is a free chat on the homepage where you can talk to GLM models made by Z.ai (formerly Zhipu AI), without creating an account. Your messages are sent through our server to Z.ai’s API, which generates the replies. The second is a set of guides about the GLM models, their API, prices and coding tools, such as the GLM models comparison and the GLM API quickstart.
How we handle your data is described in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
A free service with limits
The chat costs nothing to use. To keep it that way for everyone, each visitor is subject to limits, which currently are:
- 40 messages per day on paid models; GLM-4.7-Flash is unlimited but accepts at most one request every 3 seconds.
- 3 generated images per day with GLM-Image.
- Up to 8,000 characters per message, with the last 20 messages (trimmed to 24,000 characters) sent as context.
- Image uploads (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 4 MB) with GLM-5.3-Flash only.
On busy days, paid models may switch to GLM-4.7-Flash for the rest of the day (UTC), with the reply labeled accordingly, and image generation may pause until the next UTC day. We may change these limits, add or remove models, or change chat settings at any time, without notice. The about page describes how the chat works today.
Acceptable use
You may use GLM Chat for any lawful personal or professional purpose. You must not:
- Use the chat to break the law, or to plan, promote or help with anything illegal.
- Generate or upload sexual content involving minors, content that exploits or harms children, or non-consensual intimate imagery.
- Use the chat to harass, threaten, defame or impersonate anyone, or to create spam, scams or deliberate disinformation.
- Create malware, or use the chat to attack, probe or break into systems you do not have permission to test.
- Upload content you do not have the right to share, or use the output to infringe anyone else’s rights.
- Get around the limits, for example by rotating browser IDs, clearing cookies repeatedly, using many devices or networks to multiply your quota, or running automated scripts.
- Scrape the chat, call its internal endpoints directly, resell access, or build a product on top of it. If you need programmatic access, get your own key from Z.ai; our API guide shows how.
- Overload, disrupt or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site or its infrastructure.
Z.ai’s policies also apply
Every chat reply is generated by a Z.ai model through Z.ai’s API. That means Z.ai’s own rules for using its models apply to what you send and receive here, in addition to these terms. You can read them at docs.z.ai/legal-agreement/terms-of-use. Z.ai may refuse a request or block content its systems flag as unsafe, and we cannot override that decision.
Your inputs
You are responsible for everything you type or upload. Do not enter passwords, API keys, payment card numbers, health records or other sensitive information, and do not share other people’s personal data without a lawful reason. Your input passes through our server to Z.ai, as described in the privacy policy.
By sending a message or image, you give us permission to transmit it to Z.ai and to display the reply to you. We use your input for nothing else.
If you use the chat for work, follow your employer’s rules on sharing company information, source code or customer data with AI services. When in doubt, leave it out.
AI output can be wrong
GLM models are powerful, but they make mistakes. A reply can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, biased or offensive, and it can sound confident while being wrong. Code may contain bugs or security flaws. The chat uses short, fast settings (up to 2,048 output tokens and the lightest reasoning level), so long or complex answers may be cut short.
Check anything important before you rely on it. Test code before you run it in production, and do not treat an answer as medical, legal, financial or other professional advice. Our disclaimer covers this in more detail.
Ownership
The guides, text, tables and images on GLM Chat belong to us. You may quote short passages with a link back to the source page. Copying whole pages or republishing our content in bulk requires our written permission.
We claim no ownership of the replies or images you generate in the chat. Your use of that output is subject to Z.ai’s terms and to the law, and you are responsible for how you use it, including checking that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Generated images
Images created with GLM-Image are returned as a link from Z.ai that expires after 30 days. Use the download button to keep a copy. The acceptable-use rules above apply to image prompts in full: do not try to create images of real people in sexual or degrading situations, or anything else those rules forbid.
Links and advertising
Our pages link to other websites, including Z.ai’s documentation and third-party services. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or practices. The site shows ads served by Google AdSense; an ad appearing here is not an endorsement of the product or company behind it.
Availability and no warranty
We provide GLM Chat “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that the chat or the site will always be online, fast, error-free or secure, or that any particular model will stay available. The chat depends on Z.ai’s API, so an outage or change on Z.ai’s side can affect it. We may change, pause or discontinue any part of the service at any time.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or business, arising from your use of GLM Chat or from relying on its content or on AI output. Because the service is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us to use it, which is zero. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Suspension
We may block or limit access for any visitor, browser or network that breaks these terms, abuses the limits or puts the service at risk, without notice. We may also report content that appears to involve serious harm, such as the abuse of children, to the relevant authorities where the law requires it.
Changes to these terms of service
We may update these terms of service as the site changes. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
